Haminoea sp. #1
|Maximum size: 6 mm.
species has a strongly inflated transparent shell without spiral
striae. The animal is very similar to Haminoea ovalis. However, the orange
spots showing through the shell are substantially larger than in
comparably sized specimens of that species.
Haminoea sp. #1 is
a rare haminoeid known from three animals found in exposed to highly
exposed rocky habitats at 6-12 m (20-40 ft).
possible that these animals may be an extreme variant of H. ovalis rather than a distinct
species. It was first recorded in Hawaii from off Makena, Maui by PF in
5.9 mm: Honanana, Maui; July 8, 2005.
