Unidentified Haminoeid #10

Unidentified Haminoeid #10: shell
Maximum size:  3.8 mm shell length.

Identification:  The shells of this species are reminiscent of comparably sized shells of Diniatys dubius. However, they differ from that species in having a more angular profile and an inner lip that rises vertically from the apex.

Natural history:  Unidentified haminoeid #10 is known from two shells found in sand samples collected from Halimeda kanaloana beds at depths of 15-20 m (49-66 ft) and 52 m (170 ft). Nothing is known about the living animal.

Distribution:  Maui.

Taxonomic notes:  First recorded in Hawaii from off Makena, Maui by CP from a sand sample provided by Mike Severns and PF.
