Dendrodoris cf. arborescens (Collingwood, 1881)
Maximum size: about 38 mm.
Identification:
This
species is very similar to Dendrodoris nigra differing from that species in having an orange marginal line on its notum and foot as well as no
white spots on its notum. It's branchia are probably also larger when fully
extended.
Natural history:
Dendrodoris cf. arborescens
is known from only two animals found in shallow water.
Distribution:
Big Island: Dendrodoris arborescens is widely
distributed
in the western Pacific.
Taxonomic notes:
This
species was first reported from Hawaii by Daniel Jennings-Kam from
Kapoho, Puna, Big Island in March, 2013. We've opted to use "cf" since
the branchia appear smaller than is typical for D. arborescens found elsewhere (though, that may be a matter of posture...).
