Dermatobranchus cf. piperoides Gosliner & Fahey, 2011

Maximum size: 6 mm. (Bertsch
& Johnson, 1981).
Identification:
This
is a small, cream animal without longitudinal ridges. It has a few
scattered violet spots and
orange-red rhinophores.
Natural history:
We've only seen
two Dermatobranchus cf. piperoides.
Both were found on sand near rubble in a semi-protected area at a
depth of 5-8 m (16-26 ft). The one animal seen by Scott Johnson was
found at an exposed rocky site at about 5 m (16 ft).
Distribution:
Maui and Oahu: D. piperoides is known from Reunion.
Taxonomic notes: It was first
recorded in Hawaii at Makua, Oahu by Scott Johnson on June 9,
1978. We're using "cf" largely on geographic grounds.
