Diacavolinia aff. longirostris (de

Maximum size:
8 mm.
Identification:
Shells
of
this species are transparent-violet and have an
elongate rostrum. The above photo shows the
wing-like extensions of the
mantle characteristic of live cavolinids.
Natural history:
Fragments
of Diacavolinia
aff. longirostris
shells are
moderately common in sand samples.
Distribution:
Maui,
Niihau, French Frigate Shoals and Midway:
circumglobal.
Taxonomic notes:
Janssen, et. al. (2019) expresses uncertainty in matching northeastern
Pacific material to previous material attributed to Diacavolinia longirostris.
