Diacria schmidti: shell
Maximum size:  2.5 mm shell length.

Identification:  The shell of this species is translucent-amber. It's strongly inflated with well developed sculpture.

Natural history:  Shells of Diacria schmidti are moderately common in sand samples.

Distribution:  Maui, Niihau and French Frigate Shoals: widespread in the Indo-Pacific.

Taxonomic notes: Hawaiian shells seem to have stronger sculpture than most populations and are somewhat smaller, on average.

Photo:  CP: composite photo, 2 shells; 2.4 mm: from a sand sample provided by Mike Severns and PF; off Makena, Maui; Dec. 3, 1991.
