Evalina waikikiensis (Pilsbry,
1918)
Maximum size: 3.1 mm shell
length.
Identification:
This
species has a white shell that is more strongly inflated and has
more widely spaced spiral striae than the shell of Evalea peasei.
Natural history:
The
shells of Evalina
waikikiensis are moderately rare in beach drift.
Distribution:
Maui and Oahu (also Johnston Atoll?).
Taxonomic notes: This species is listed in Kay, 1979 as Evalia waikikiensis. It is probably also listed in Severns, 2011 as Odostomia waikikiensis and Eulimella haleiwensis (in our opinion, the illustrated shells fall within the range of variation of E. waikikiensis and Kay, 1979 was probably correct in synonymizing Odostomia haleiwensis with Evalia waikikiensis).
