young shell, 3 mm
|
Odostomia rosacea Pease, 1868
Maximum size: 7 mm.
Identification:
The
shell
of this species is elongate, smooth and rosy pink apically,
shading to white abapically.
(Kay, 1979)
Natural history:
According
to
Kay (1979), shells of Odostomia
rosacea are occasionally found in beach drift
on Kauai. We've only seen one young shell on Maui.
Distribution:
Maui and Kauai.
Taxonomic notes: This species is probably also listed in Severns, 2011 as Odostomia sp. 1 (in our opinion, the illustrated shell is a young O. rosacea).
