Phyllidia cf. larryi (Brunckhorst, 1993)
Maximum size: 3 mm.
Identification:
This
is a cream animal with spicules diverging from the midline and
radiating golden-brown lines around the margin.
Natural history:
Phyllidia cf. larryi is known from a single
juvenile found in rubble near La Perouse Pinnacle at French Frigate
Shoals.
Distribution:
French Frigate Shoals: Phyllidia
larryi is known from Guam.
Taxonomic notes:
Phyllidia larryi
was formerly referred to as Fryeria
larryi
due to its lack of a
dorsal anus. However Fryeria
has now bean synonymized with Phyllidia.
It
was first recorded in Hawaii from French Frigate Shoals by the 2006
CREEF
expedition on Oct. 22, 2006. There is some possibility that the
Hawaiian animal might be a juvenile of Phyllidia loricata rather than P. larryi.
