The family Proctonotidae
(sometimes listed as the Zephyrinidae) includes species with long
cerata resembling those of the aeolids. Many
have an elevated ridge, or caruncle, between the rhinophores and the
cerata may be autotomized when the animals are disturbed. They feed on
bryozoans. At
least three species are known from Hawaii, all in the genus Janolus.
