Many have an elevated ridge, or caruncle, between the rhinophores and the cerata may be autotomized when the animals are disturbed. They feed on bryozoans. At least three species are known from Hawaii, all in the genus Janolus. Janolus mirabilis Janolus toyamensis Janolus sp. #1
