Umbraculidae
The family Umbraculidae
has usually been considered monotypic with a single
circumtropical species, Umbraculum
umbraculum. However, it appears to contain several distinct forms that can be consistently distinguished based on
tubercle form, shell calcification and color suggesting that it may include multiple species. Three species may be
present in Hawaii (all in the genus Umbraculum). Assignment of the original type material for Umbraculum umbraculum to any of them seems to be ambiguous, however. So, we're listing all three as "sp. #" pending further work.
