Architectonica perspectiva (Linnaeus, 1758)
Maximum size:
45 mm shell diameter (Kay, 1979).
Identification:
This
is
a large, top-shaped species with an enlarged
marginal cord. It is light brown with interrupted
spiral lines.
Natural history:
According
to
Kay (1979), Architectonica
perspectiva is found in sand at depths of
30-50 m (98-164 ft). However, shells have been
dredged to 116 m (380 ft). (Severns, 2011)
Distribution:
Molokai
and Oahu: widely distributed in the Indo-Pacific.
Taxonomic notes:
The illustration of this species on page 398 of
Severns (2011) is of Heliacus areola, instead. The illustration of this species in Severns, 2000 is of Architectonica gualtierii.
