Avaldesia albomacula (Chan & Gosliner,
2007)

Maximum size: 28 mm.
Identification:
This
dorid is similar to Avaldesia tamatoa
but lacks obvious ridging/pitting on the notum and lacks white on it's
rhinophores. The color of the notum and the development of the white
"dash" anterior to the branchia are probably variable.
Natural history:
Avaldesia albomacula
is known from one animal found at < 10 m (33 ft) at a moderately exposed site. (Note 1)
Distribution: Maui: widely distributed in the western & central
Pacific.
Taxonomic notes: May have first been recorded in Hawaii from Maalaea Bay, Maui by CP on April 1, 2017. It was formerly lumped with Avaldesia tamatoa under Thordisa albomacula.

Note
1: Some ambiguous animals currently placed with A. tamatosa may belong with it. The animal in the photo was sequenced for the original paper.
