Murphydoris sp. #3
Maximum size: 4-5 mm.
Identification:
The body of this animal is white except for the rhinophores which are
translucent and decorated with brown frosting and white spots. There may
be a transverse brown streak just posterior to the extrabranchial
processes and minute
brown dots elsewhere. When they're present, the dots occupy shallow depressions. The notum and
extrabranchial processes are irregularly tuberculate. The extrabranchial
processes are short, the rhinophores are simple and there are no visible branchia.
Natural history:
Murphydoris sp.
#3 is known from five animals found at 4-10 m (12-33 ft) at moderately exposed sites.
Distribution: Maui and Oahu: may be widely distributed in the Pacific.
Taxonomic notes:
It was first
recorded in Hawaii on the west shore of Oahu by Damaris Torres-Pulliza and Roney Rodrigues on Oct. 30, 2022. It's
similar to "Goniodoridella sp. 5" in Gosliner, et. al (2018).
