Roxaniella sp. #9
Maximum size: 4 mm shell
length.
Identification:
The
shell of this species is similar to shells of Diniatys
dentifer in sculpture but
lacks the columellar tooth characteristic of that species.
Natural history:
Roxaniella sp. #9 is known from two shells: one found in beach drift at Midway
Atoll, the other found in a sand sample taken at 8-16 m (25-54 ft) on the Big Island. Nothing is known
about the living animal.
Distribution:
Big Island & Midway.
Taxonomic notes:
It was first recorded in
Hawaii
from Midway Atoll by CP from a sand sample provided by PF in June, 1993. Manuel Malaquais suggested that it's in the genus Roxaniella. (pers. com.)
