Thordisa sp. #13
Maximum size: about 30 mm.
Identification:
This is a translucent-pink to yellow species with reddish to yellowish rhinophores and
irregular black patches on its notum.
Natural history: Thordisa
sp.
#13 is known from only two animals. The first was dredged from about 100
m (328 ft). The second was found concealed in sand at 3 m (11 ft). (Note 1)
Distribution:
Maui and Oahu.
Taxonomic notes:
It
was first recorded in Hawaii from off Hale'iwa Trench, Oahu by Terry
Gosliner in the 1970s. There's some chance that the two animals could be
different species but the form and color of the rhinophores and branchia (as well as the black patches)
support lumping.

Gosliner; 1970s.
Observations and comments:
Note
1: Kelly reported "I only saw a
small hint of orange and the branchia at first. Rhinophores were
retracted and the animal appeared to be resting. When the animal sensed
my presence it only minimally moved."
