Trapania sp. #1

Maximum size: 3 mm.
Identification:
This is a cream animal frosted with white and flecked with brown. It
differs from Trapania euryeia in
having a shorter "tail," longer foot corners and shorter
extra-branchial
and
extra-rhinophoral processes. It also has more white pigment and less
well defined brown patches.
Natural history:
Trapania
sp. #1 is known from only two animals: one found at a moderately exposed
rocky site between 3 and 13 m (20 and 44 ft) and the other in a Halimeda kanaloana bed between 6 and 18 m (20 and 60 ft).
Distribution:
Maui and Kauai.
Taxonomic notes:
There is some chance that these animals could be very atypical Trapania euryeia. It was first
recorded in Hawaii from Koloa Landing, Kauai
by CP on May 30, 2010.
